Eggs in Purgatory. My First Post.
Yesterday, I stopped by a little Argentinian restaurant. I was on my break from work and order three incredible empanadas, Bacon and plum, traditional beef with olives and raisins, and a medley cheese stuff one that were all delicious. Since work had been particularly straining that day, I decide to treat myself to a Dulce de Leche Alfajor a sort of crumbly cookie biscuit sandwich with a generously thick coat of Spanish caramel.
I was moved to tears by the flood of childhood memories that surged through me after that first bite. Christmases, family parties, and special events all served with large plates of sweet treats including alfajores, medialunas, and arrollados. The connection between food, who we are, and family all clicked for me. Yet, I wasn’t comforted. It made me feel lost, in search of a definition family and who am I?
There’s the birth of this post. I want to embark on a journey of discovering not only who I am through food. But of redefining what it means to share food with others in the community.
